I’m Qianni Yu, I come from China and am a graduate student at Columbia School of Social Work. I've learned Chinese dance for over 20 years. I have won the 1st Prize of National College Art Festival and also got the 1st Prize of Dance Competition at Zhejiang Province in China. I really love Chinese dance. For me, it is not only traditional Chinese art but also a way for people from all around the world to know more about Chinese culture and history. I’m very honored to be the president of the China Dance team. I hope with our efforts, we can bring our audiences more enjoyable dance shows in the future.

I am a junior in Barnard College majoring in Economics and Math, and I’m excited to return to the e-board and further improve China Dance this year! Through Chinese dance I have been able to further embrace and learn about my cultural heritage as well as spread the beauty of Asian art within the community. Outside of school work, I spend my time binging the latest show that I have discovered, carefully planning my return to campus, and baking to satisfy my quarantine cravings.

I am a sophomore in Columbia Engineering and am super excited to be treasurer of Columbia China Dance this school year. Among all dance forms, Chinese dance has always had a special place in my heart where I can connect with my heritage through movements. Growing up surrounded by Chinese dance, I want to continue and share my legacy at Columbia! Outside of club, you can find me drawing or watching K-Dramas :)

My name is Elaine Zhu and I am a junior in Columbia College majoring in Neuroscience and Behavior and will be Columbia China Dance’s secretary this year! I’m originally from Overland Park, Kansas and I have been doing Chinese dance since fifth grade. Some of my hobbies are watching movies, finding new places to eat at, and baking desserts. I’m so excited to be part of this year’s e-board and can’t wait to see everyone back on campus!

I’m a junior in Barnard College studying Economics and Pyschology. I grew up learning Chinese dance in Canada, and it made me aware of cultural difference and appreciation in artistic expression. I continue to learn new dance styles with a focus on the space between different dance forms because, to me, they each act as tools that can be used to create an experience.

I’m currently a sophomore in Columbia College studying biology and potentially computer science. I love the grace associated with Chinese dance and greatly enjoy performing this representation of my cultural heritage. Aside from Chinese dance, I am also experienced with ballet and contemporary.

I started my journey of Chinese classical dance and Ballet since the age of four, and have been regularly practicing and performaning dances till now. I was actively involved in all Chinese dance performances at Columbia University during my graduate studies. Since September 2013, I officially joined Columbia China Dance as the head coach and has been teaching and choregraphing Chinese dances voluntarily for the past 7 years. I am very grateful to continue my passion for dance and to meet many like-minded and talented friends.
